Flute lessons are available for all ages and abilities, from beginner to advanced. One's own instrument is necessary for home practice, and beginning through intermediate Central New York area flutists can find assistance at Music and Arts in Clay, either by rental or purchase. Recommended brands include Gemeinhardt and Yamaha, and if a student is smaller in stature, a curved headjoint may be needed.
Core studies will use the Rubank and/or Trevor Wye method books along with appropriately leveled repertoire, and students will be guided towards the development of a daily flute workout to grow towards whatever path a lessons will branch out to include small ensemble work, theory, improvisation and working on band method books and music as needed.
A bootcamp is a concentrated 6-week course of study consisting of 6 one-hour lessons, and is only available for students with prior music study or by the recommendation of one's school band or orchestral director, as true development comes with consistent daily work and a weekly outside set of ears. Intense focus will be on understanding all details of the repertoire, and sight-reading guidance and practice will be included using repertoire from the studio's library.
